Pingtung Climate

Pingtung County has a tropical monsoon climate. The whole territory is south of the Tropic of Cancer. The temperature difference throughout the year is not large. The annual average temperature is about 25.5 degrees Celsius. The hot climate lasts for nine months. It is known as the "tropical capital". Although the summer in Pingtung is very long, it does not mean the temperature is high and muggy. With the Taiwan Strait, the Bashi Channel and the Pacific Ocean, and the continuous blowing of the marine tropical monsoon, the sultry heat is adjusted. The average temperature in July is lower than that of other areas of Taiwan.

The barrier between the Dawu Mountains and the Central Mountains blocks the cold northeast monsoon. In addition, the latitude is low and the sunshine is sufficient so that the winter in Pingtung is not obvious. Except for a few days when the cold snap hits, the warm sunshine in the south is still there. To provide this land with a winter like the late spring sun, the average temperature in January, the coldest month of the year, is only about 19.5 degrees Celsius.
